Description

Just in time for summer, Seminole County Parks and Recreation and Centra Care Urgent Care have partnered to launch a county-wide health initiative called, "Heart and Sole Seminole".

Summer is a time to be outside and be more active, participating in sports and other healthy activities. Unfortunately, research shows that students are more likely to gain weight during summer months at home, than they do during the school year.

Don’t let the Florida heat be an excuse to be a couch potato. Hydrating and sun protection are keys to maintaining a wellness regimen even during the summer months.

"Our goal is to motivate all residents to become more active and bring the entire family together in a competitive yet beneficial way," says Steve Waring, Seminole County Parks and Recreation.

Residents have a chance to win prizes after completing a series of health challenges listed on the Heart and Sole Seminole Passport, which participants can pick at any of the following locations:

∙ Any of 4 Seminole County Centra Care Locations

∙ Any Seminole County Library Branch

∙ The Seminole County Extension Office

∙ Z88 Radio

∙ Any of 3 Seminole County Parks & Recreation Offices

Once health challenges have been completed, participants have until Labor Day to return their Passports to any of 4 Seminole County Centra Care locations to redeem prizes. One participant will win the grand prize of a new iPad.

Health Challenges Include:

 1. Blood pressure screening at one of four Centra Care locations in Seminole County

2. Participate in a Zumba class at Sylvan Lake Park

3. Participate in a tennis class at Sanlando Park, Red Bug Lake Park or Sylvan Lake Park

4. Participate in a Boot Camp class at Sylvan Lake Park

5. Walk, jog, bike or rollerblade a Seminole County trail

 6. Complete a nutrition class at Seminole County Extension Services

7. Hike a natural land area in Seminole County
